  51. The following files are distributed with Cap2WP.
  52.  
  53.   CAP2WP.COM provides an easy way to copy displayed screens
  54.              directly to a document on disk, ready for later
  55.              retrieval by a word processor.  It is a memory
  56.              resident utility for the IBM PC family of computers,
  57.              allowing 'snap-shots' to be taken during other
  58.              programs' operation.  Screens are copied to
  59.              WordPerfect or ASCII format file.
  60.  PATTERN.EXE provides a work-out test pattern for Cap2WP.  It
  61.              displays the extended character set, lines, boxes,
  62.              coloured panels and high-lighted text.  This display
  63.              can demonstrate and test Cap2WP's abilities. Type
  64.              "PATTERN" at the DOS prompt, and CAPTURE it.
  65.   CONFIG.EXE configures the operation of Cap2WP.  A menu of the
  66.              adjustable features is shown, with the current
  67.              values of each displayed beside it.  A help screen
  68.              will appear for each item being changed.
  69.   MANUAL.TXT this manual in ASCII text format, displayed by
  70.              typing "TYPE MANUAL.TXT | MORE"
  71.              printed by typing "PRINT MANUAL.TXT".
  72.  INSTALL.EXE installs files and optionally modifies AUTOEXEC.BAT
  73.              to load Cap2WP into memory at boot-up.

  80. To INSTALL the files, place the distribution diskette into drive
  81. A (or B) and type "A(or B):INSTALL" [enter].  Follow the on-screen
  82. prompts.  Upon completion, CONFIG will be run to show and set the
  83. operating features.

  87. You may manually install Cap2WP.
  88. 1)   Make a directory on the destination drive.        MD \CAP2WP
  89.  
  90. 2)   Copy the files from the distribution diskette to the
  91.      destination drive and directory.        COPY A:*.* C:\CAP2WP
  92.      INSTALL.EXE may be deleted.        DEL C:\CAP2WP\INSTALL.EXE
  93.  
  94. 3)   Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to add the new directory to the
  95.      PATH statement.  If you wish to always load Cap2WP at
  96.      start-up, add the command line.                     C:Cap2WP

  98. 4)   Change to the new directory.                    CD C:\CAP2WP

  100. 5)   Run Config to set the operating features.             CONFIG

  108. Load Cap2WP into memory by typing "Cap2WP" at the DOS prompt, or
  109. by including the line "CAP2WP.COM" in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  This
  110. may have been done during INSTALL.  As with all memory-resident
  111. programs, do not load during an application's temporary "exit or
  112. shell to DOS" process.  Only 3k of system memory will be
  113. occupied.

  115. Activate Cap2WP by holding down the [Ctrl] key while you press
  116. and release the [PRINT SCREEN] key.  If you have changed this 
  117. 'hot-key' using CONFIG, use your new combination.
  118. The screen will be read, interpreted to WordPerfect (or ASCII)
  119. format, and written to a file named 'IMAGE.DOC' in the current
  120. disk's root directory, e.g. C:\IMAGE.DOC.  If you are logged on to
  121. a diskette, Cap2WP will attempt to write 'IMAGE.DOC' there.
  122.  
  123. A high beep indicates creation of 'IMAGE.DOC' on the disk.
  124. A low beep indicates that IMAGE.DOC already exists and the
  125.      current screen is being appended to that same file.
  126. A medium beep indicates that screen capture is complete.
  127.  
  128. WordPerfect format documents will be created with 12 pitch to
  129. allow an 80 column screen to fit within a normal 8 1/2 inch page
  130. width.  Margins are set to 1 inch and 1/2 inch.  This can be
  131. altered later within the word processor.
  132. ASCII format files will have no margins or modifiers.  Using
  133. WordPerfect output format, the full screen is written as is with
  134. line and box drawing characters preserved.  Characters displayed on
  135. the screen with high intensity will receive the bold attribute. 
  136. Coloured areas of the screen can be assigned any one of the
  137. WordPerfect attributes.

  139. Unload Cap2WP by retyping its name at the DOS prompt (not during
  140. an application's temporary "exit or shell to DOS" process). 
  141. Memory-resident programs must be unloaded in the reverse order to
  142. which they were loaded.

  149. Type "CONFIG" at the DOS prompt if you wish to alter any of
  150. Cap2WP's features.  If CONFIG successfully finds Cap2WP and all of
  151. its configuration 'markers', a menu will appear with the current
  152. settings displayed to the right of each item.  Failure to start
  153. indicates that the DOS PATH should be changed or you must run
  154. CONFIG after changing to the directory where the files were
  155. installed.
  156. An arrow and high-light bar can be moved using the up and down
  157. arrow keys.  Pick the item to be changed by pressing [enter].  Read
  158. the help pop-up text and respond to the prompt displayed there. 
  159. The new setting will be displayed beside the menu when complete. 
  160. Changes will come into effect after loading (or removing and re-
  161. loading) Cap2WP into memory.

  189. In the example above, the attribute to be applied to coloured
  190. areas of the screen is chosen from a pick list by using the up and
  191. down arrows, and pressing [ENTER].

  193. The 'Save and/or Exit' option allows you to Save the current
  194. settings, Quit without saving, or press any other key to resume at
  195. the menu.  Config directly modifies Cap2WP.COM with the new
  196. settings - no need for command line arguments or a configuration
  197. file.

  204. The PC must be in text mode (modes 2, 3 or 7) for Cap2WP to load
  205. or activate.  WordPerfect provides a screen capture utility called
  206. "GRAB" for graphics modes.
  207.  
  208. Some memory resident programs change interrupt vectors and execute
  209. only their own alternate interrupt handlers.  Cap2WP will execute
  210. any previously loaded routine(s) first, then itself.  Cap2WP should
  211. be loaded after network or other memory-resident programs.
  212.  
  213. Hot-keys are combinations of keys having altered meanings.  Many
  214. BIOSes do not support all possible key combinations.  Further
  215. still, applications may re-define key combinations at will and
  216. reset them upon exit. Cap2WP and CONFIG directly examine the Shift,
  217. Control and Alt keys and the key's scan code to provide 
  218. combinations not conventionally available.  The Ctrl-PrintScreen
  219. combination (a DOS function) may cause problems if pressed while
  220. Cap2WP is not in memory.  An alternate may be desirable. Use CONFIG
  221. to change this feature.

  223. The output format may be changed to ASCII.  Cap2WP will translate
  224. the special characters, used for line and box drawing, to typewriter
  225. characters which can be sent directly to a printer.  
  226. If you choose Extended ASCII output format, special characters will 
  227. remain as seen on the screen.  However, many printers will not print 
  228. these characters properly, and some applications cannot directly 
  229. import them as seen.

  237. 3 kbytes of memory is consumed by Cap2WP.  Monitors must be in 
  238. text mode during program load and screen Cap2WP.  MDA, HERCULES,
  239. CGA, EGA and VGA screens may be used.

  248. trial purposes in hope that if found satisfactory, the production
